Apple Releases iOS 6.1.4 To Address iPhone 5 Issue

Apple has just seeded iOS 6.1.4 to everyone, and it seems that it will be addressing a speaker issue that is in the iPhone 5. So it seems to update a small audio profile in order to fix the speaker’s clarity.

It can be downloaded via OTA, and it’s only 11MB, and seems to be specifically for iPhone 5 users. Of course, you’ll want to stay away from this if you jailbreak. Apple patched some evasi0n exploits in iOS 6.1.3, so if you want to jailbreak, this won’t help you out.

If you’d like to download iOS 6.1.4 directly, here are the links for:

iPhone5,1: 6.1.4 (10B350)
iPhone 5,2: 6.1.4 (10B350)

Other than the small profile, there seems to be no noticeable differences in this firmware.

MessageBox: Chat Heads on iOS

Remember that cool tweak that we reported on a while ago? The concept behind the tweak was to enable Chat Heads on iOS system-wide, therefore “de-sandbox”ing it. It was whipped up in 24 hours by developer Adam Bell, and today it’s been released. The new tweak, dubbed “MessageBox”, allows you to view, send and read Facebook messages via Chat Heads throughout your entire iOS device (besides the lockscreen), just as it would be on Android, or a Facebook Home-compatible device.

Adam has been prominent in the jailbreak scene, developing useful tweaks such as Stride, and many others. However, this is a tweak that many have been looking forward to, and it seems to be the best, and only, rendition of Chat Heads on a device that’s not Facebook Home-friendly. I’ve been using the beta for a little while now since I got in contact with Adam, and today, he’s released the beta build to everyone, with hopes that an official release will soon follow.

Here’s how to get it:

According to an exclusive report from The Verge, developer Adam Bell has created an upcoming jailbreak tweak that will allow you to utilize Facebook’s new Chat Heads system-wide in iOS. This proposed tweak comes just a day after Facebook released their updated iOS application with the new feature, but Bell wanted an experience that wouldn’t be limited in an application, thus creation of the tweak begun. The Verge claims it only took Bell “mere hours” to create and finalize the tweak..

Pod2g: Evad3rs Not Actively Working On 6.1.3 Jailbreak

In a recent reply to a concerned fan, pod2g verified that the evad3rs dev-team is not working on any jailbreak for the iOS 6.1.3 operating system which broke the prior evasi0n jailbreak just weeks ago. Cyril, aka pod2g, clarified that they’re still waiting for a major release however. Here’s the tweet:

This isn’t really a shocker, however, I’m sure there are a few people out there who have accidentally restored and/or updated their device to iOS 6.1.3 and won’t be able to jailbreak without the saving of SHSH blobs. This doesn’t mean that they aren’t entirely working on a jailbreak, as they could be looking for future exploits for a future jailbreak which will likely be one for iOS 7, which should be released at WWDC.

Don’t be entirely disheartned as well, p0sixninja just popped out of his shell the other day, and took to Twitter to claim that he has a few exploits up his sleeve, and has an unreleased jailbreak. It’s worth noting that he has yet to provide evidence, so he could just be jumping the gun.

Apple Leaning For Summer iRadio Launch

As we’ve heard rumors about time and time again, it seems that Apple’s alleged iRadio service is slated to be released within the Summer timeframe. This could mean we may see this launch, or a preview at the WWDC Keynote event – after the iPhone 5S launch, of course. Greg Sandoval of The Verge has the scoop:

Much has been written about Apple’s plan to launch a Pandora-esque service this year. Now multiple music industry insiders have told The Verge that significant progress has been made in the talks with two of the top labels: Universal and Warner. One of the sources said “iRadio is coming. There’s no doubt about it anymore.” Apple is pushing hard for a summertime launch.

You may remember, back in September, the Wall Street Journal first reported that Apple was working on a Pandora-like service with Bloomberg backing up that claim later in October. Also, 9to5mac found some alleged iRadio buttons hidden in iOS files shortly after the iOS 6 jailbreak was released.

What are your thoughts on iRadio? Do you think this will take off, or be not so successful? Let us know in the comments below.

P0sixninja Claims He Has Exploits For Next Jailbreak

Former Chronic-Dev member, yet prominent jailbreak figure Joshua Hill, aka p0sixninja, allegedly has exploits in preparation for the next jailbreak. This of course means Hill has found exploits not previously patched from Apple, and ones that were not used in the recently-patched evasi0n. Here’s the tweet that got the jailbreak community excited:

Following that tweet, Hill confirmed that he “discovered all the needed exploits on my own over the past few months“, and that the evad3rs “haven’t gone anywhere“. Despite confirming that he’s found exploits via Twitter, there still happens to be no proof of a working jailbreak, or at least one in the works.

However, regardless of the aforementioned, this is still great news for anyone who wants to jailbreak on future iterations of iOS. With iOS 7 coming in the summer, and with the evad3rs having saved some exploits as well, we can be sure once iOS 7 is released, we may be able to see some immediate jailbreak releases.

ForceStatusBar – Display Status Bar In Fullscreen Applications

One of the tweaks to come from notorious jailbreak developer Ryan Petrich is called “ForceStatusBar”, and allows you to view your status bar in full screen applications that wouldn’t normally show your status bar unless you invoke the Notification Center.

Some of those who are curious to view the time, view various current network configurations, and battery percentage will really enjoy this tweak, as it allows you to view that information at a glance while still catching up on your iOS entertainment. It’s also partially transparent, so it won’t obstruct your view of said application.

This tweak is actually very handy, and can be found for FREE in the BigBoss repo. Be sure to view the video above for more information.

18 Million Devices Reportedly Visited Cydia On iOS 6

jailbreak ios 6.1 untethered 3

As per two days ago, Apple patched the jailbreak that was evasi0n with the iOS 6.1.3 update. Despite being patched, it’s worth noting that the evasi0n jailbreak had a 43 day running period, and covered 5 iterations of iOS 6 which is astounding. With that, iOS 6 users all over the world were able to jailbreak for the first time, or even re-jailbreak, opening the doors to the customization and freedom that lie in the application Cydia.

Jay Freeman, aka Saurik and Creator of Cydia, has informed Forbes‘ Andy Greenberg that Cydia saw 18 million unique iOS devices running iOS 6 during evasi0n’s run:

In the six weeks since evasi0n was released, however, close to 18 million devices have already been jailbroken, according to data from Jay Freeman, the administrator of the Cydia app store for jailbroken devices. He says he’s counted 18.2 million unique devices running iOS 6 visiting Cydia, including 13.8 million iPhones, 3.4 million iPads, and 1.1 million iPod Touches.

The numbers above are phenomenal, and show the outreach that the jailbreak community has to users worldwide.

Despite the claims above, Cody Lee of iDB notes that, “it’s quite possible evasi0n isn’t responsible for jailbreaking all 18 million devices. While they have their caveats, both RedSn0w and Sn0wBreeze have the ability to jailbreak older devices on iOS 6″.

What are your thoughts? Do you think that the jailbreak community is growing? Let us know in the comments below. source

Lockscreen Bug Surfaces After iOS 6.1.3 Release

Despite Apple claiming that the old lockscreen trick was patched, a video posted to YouTube shows a new hack that has been discovered in yesterday’s publicly released iOS 6.1.3 which allows a perpetrator to gain access to with a trick simpler than the last.

In a video posted by YouTube user ‘videosdebarraquito’ (via shows how easy it is to gain access to the Phone app. The trick takes advantage of a flaw in the “Voice Control” system that allows you to dial from the lockscreen. All you need to do is tell your phone to dial “123″, and pop the SIM immediately after the call is initiated. The phone will then greet you with the Phone application, allowing anyone to get a glimpse at photos, and contacts.

Thankfully there’s a quick fix that you can easily do to head over to Settings -> General -> Passcode Lock, and switch off Voice Dial or Siri under “Allow Access While Locked”.

So, it’s safe to say that iOS isn’t exactly foolproof, eh? source
