Photo of Alleged Budget iPhone Plastic Shell Surfaces

According to numerous reports, it seems that Tactus has a very interesting photo that seems to be the rear polycarbonate shell of the rumored budget iPhone that is said to be released sometime this year.

Many sources have claimed that Tactus isn’t entirely reliable due to their prior track record, however, it seems that this case seems to be consistent with prior rumors and dimensions of the budget iPhone so far. It’s very reminiscent of the iPhone 3G and 3GS, however, it looks extremely modernized with squared-off edges and a much larger panel for the alleged 4-inch display.

Tactus also heard some information about upcoming Apple devices:

I’ve also heard on the grapevine that the alleged budget iPhone will have an A5 processor like the iPad Mini with a 32nm diecast. It’s also rumoured it will have a 3.5 inch retina screen, much like the 4S, but not as big as the iPhone 5 … I’ve also discovered the factory producing this secretive project have confirmed the device will be available in Black, White, Blue, Red and Yellow

iPhone 5S, iPad Mini 2, and Budget iPhone Delayed

According to a new report from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, he claims that Apple’s upcoming devices (such as the iPhone 5S, iPad mini 2, and the alleged budget iPhone) will be slightly delayed due to various “technical challenges”, this per a research note sent out to Kuo’s clients. Kuo was sure to note that he no longer predicts that we will be seeing any of the devices launching in June, but rather July/August, as previously expected (via AppleInsider):

WSJ: Apple Begins iPhone Production In Q2, Cheaper iPhone Still On Track

Finally, some good news. According to a new report from The Wall Street Journal, Apple will be beginning production of its next-generation iPhone during Q2 2013. WSJ also says that the production would lead to a possible release in the Summer timeframe (hint hint WWDC). Here’s the scoop:

Apple Inc. AAPL +0.21% plans to begin production of a refreshed iPhone similar in size and shape to its current one in the second quarter of the year, according to people familiar with the device’s production, teeing up a possible summer launch for the next version of its flagship device.

This report also falls in line with many other who also claiming the iPhone 5S will now be released in the summer, rather than the Fall. Many other have said the iPhone will contain many different colors, like we currently see on the fifth-generation iPod touch, but WSJ says “[Apple's] plans remain unclear“.

However, with every “S” update, we can expect that the device will retain its predecessors external design, with upgraded internals and likely an upgraded camera. The iPhone 5S will also likely carry an updated A7 processor, which would fall in Apple’s current processor pattern.

WSJ is also claiming that a cheaper iPhone is still definitely in the works, but details were definitely scarce. The report also states that it will be slated for a release in the second-half of the year, making a Summer release alongside the iPhone 5S unlikely. It’s likely that the cheaper iPhone will still contain a 4-inch display but not the same materials that the iPhone 5 is designed with.

Analyst Suggests Budget iPhone Won’t Contain Retina Display

According to a new report from RBC Capital Markets analyst Amit Daryanani, it seems that Apple will not be including a retina display in the budget iPhone but will still retain the 4-inch display we see on the iPhone 5, yet will contain a plastic casing. The analyst also wrote that the device will launch in a June/July timeframe, which would make a WWDC release more likely.

Here’s the scoop, via AppleInsider:

Our supply-chain checks indicate that AAPL is working to launch multiple new phones in the June/July time-frame this year. Specifically, AAPL will launch the iPhone5s and a more affordable but lower-end iPhone at the same time, in either late CYQ2 or early Q3.

The low-end iPhone will have the same 4″ form factor as the iPhone5 but will have plastic casing and no retina display. With a lower price-point, AAPL will be able to target a growing and important part of the Smartphone market (sub-$400 price-band).

It’s worth noting that this report conflicts with KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo’s claim which states that the device will contain a retina display. Kuo has had an Apple track prediction in the past, so it’s a bit contradictory.

Budget iPhone Rumored To Release With New Design Features

According to a new report from Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities (via AppleInsider), it seems that Apple will be “unlikely to abruptly change” due to the current market shift in larger screened smartphones. It also seems that the budget iPhone will have a “super-thin plastic casing mixed with glass fiber“. Kuo is also claiming that the device will around 0.4 and 0.6 millimeters thick, which is slightly thinner than Apple’s current casing.

The report is also claiming that the budget iPhone will come in a slew of colors, possibly 4-6 options, such as we see on the iPod lineup today, and most notably with the 5th generation iPod touch.

In addition to all of these claims, Kuo was also the one to state that the iPhone 5S would contain a fingerprint sensor, and although he stands behind his claim, it seems unlikely.

Budget iPhone To Have Snapdragon Processor

It’s pretty much almost confirmed that Apple will be releasing a cheaper/budget iPhone later this year, that is slated to cost around $320 unsubsidized, and will feature a polycarbonate body, however, a new report from Macotakara (citing China Times) is claiming that the device will feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon SoC processor.

iphone 5s release date

Ming-Chi Kuo, KGI Securities analyst, issued a brand new research note regarding Apple’s roadmap for iOS device releases, specifically the iPhone 5S and the rumored cheaper iPhone. Budget iPhone To Be Released In Array Of Colors

The Apple rumors are just rolling out today, and it seems that this one has reputable source. According to Commercial Times in Taiwan, Pegatron, who is a producer of some Apple products, is slated to be producing the heavily-discussed “budget iPhone” and claims that it will be coming in an array of colors. It’ll be sporting the alleged polycarbonate backing in many different colors, according to the report.

Pegatron seems to be the manufacturer of the device, and is expected to ship upwards of 40 million units to Apple for this year. The Commercial Times is also revisiting the claim that the unsubsidized price of the device would be $350, which is strange since previous rumors claimed a $150-250 price point.

You may remember back in early January, one of the first rumors of the year was that the iPhone 5S would sport a whole array of colors, which could be something that Apple is attempting try with the iPhone series, as they already do this with the iPod lineup.

Polycarbonate iPhone Rumored To Release Next Year

The Apple rumor mill just isn’t stopping any time soon. According to a new report from Japanese blog, which has brought  many rumors and/or leaks in the past, is claiming that Apple is working on a polycarbonate budget iPhone which is said to be released in 2014, and will cost upwards of around $330, unsubsidized.

Macotakara says that Apple is taking time to work on the design of the budget iPhone, and will be pushed back a year due to changes in its design. The polycarbonate body will be like the material we saw on the old plastic white MacBook’s. The budget iPhone is also said to be equipped with a 4.5 inch display, rather than the next rumored iPhone’s 4.8-inch display.

The site also states that the budget iPhone will be reminiscent of the current iPhone 5. So, with that being said, what are your thoughts on the budget iPhone? Let us know in the comments below! source

Analyst Confident Apple Will Release A Cheaper iPhone After Meeting With CFO

low cost cheaper iphone 2013

We’ve heard the rumor about Apple releasing a cheaper iPhone for a few years now. This cheaper iPhone would appeal to those in emerging markets, like China, where the average annual wage is around $3000. The current iPhone 5 costs around $900 in these countries, while the iPhone 4S is still around $500-600, meaning cheaper Android handsets are taking all the glory.

Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty had a meeting with Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer. After the meeting she put out a research note stating: [Read more...]
