New Lawsuit Claims iPad 3 Was Created With A “Planned Obsolescence”

ipad34

Do you think Apple created the iPad 3 with the intention of releasing an updated model just a few months after? Many folks think so, however, a few individuals thought so much so that they have now taken legal action against Apple, claiming the iPad 3 had a “planned obsolescence“. The Brazilian Institute of Politics and Law Software, IBDI, are the ones behind the lawsuit, and seem to be very upset over the fact that the iPad 3 was allegedly made to be discontinued.

The lawsuit goes on to say that Apple was performing unjust business practices, as well as the aforementioned “planned obsolescence”. An attorney for the IBDI says, “Consumers thought they were buying high-end equipment, not knowing it was already an obsolete version”. However, it seems that many folks seem to be backing up Apple. The folks at AppleInsider reminds us that Apple allowed those who bought an iPad 3 within a specific time period, could go to any Apple Store and get it swapped for a new iPad 4.

According to iDB, “If the Brazilian court finds Apple guilty, the company could be on the hook for replacing all iPad 3s purchased by Brazilian consumers“. What is your take on the whole lawsuit? Do you think Apple will win, or lose? Let us know in the comments below, or feel free to shoot us a tweet with your response.

iPads Reaching The Hands Of Students, School Purchases 7,000 Devices

Screen-Shot-2013-02-18-at-2.41.31-PM

In some good news for the day, iPad’s are becoming increasingly used in the classroom, and are being used to enrich the educative experience for students. The Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211 in Illinois is going to be purchasing around 7,000 iPad 4th generations for students in an effort to increase the amount of student interaction. The PSHSD 211 has experimented with this before, giving a limited 1,500 iPads to students and faculty last Fall, which seems to have turned out for the good.

The Daily Herald is reporting that the district will be paying somewhere around $1.25 to $1.43 million for a 3 year lease of 6 to 7,000 iPads, which is representative of half of the students in the district. The initiative will also be reaching specific faculty, whom will learn how to handle the new change:

Three teachers who are using the iPads in their classrooms made a presentation on their effectiveness to the board Thursday. While they all admitted there was a learning curve at first, there was a consensus that the devices are doing wonders for their students, particularly challenged learners.

An administrative superintendent even stated that, “We believe the one-to-one program is changing our teachers, it’s changing our instruction, and most importantly it’s changing the way in which students interact with their world.” The initiative to push technology along with education is one that seems to be growing rapidly, and I have also seemed to witness it as well. I happen to live in Illinois, where I’ve witnessed middle schoolers receive MacBook Airs just last week as an effort to expand the 1-to-1 education push.

What is your take on iPads, or even technology in general, being expanded into the classroom? Let us know in the comments below. source

Apple iOS iRadio Buttons Found Deep Within iOS 6.1 After Jailbreak

Radio Buttons iOS 6.1 Jailbreak New iPad Panning away from the Evasi0n Untethered iOS 6.1 Jailbreak madness, it’s been awhile since we’ve heard anything about Apple’s rumored radio music service on iOS. Back in October, Bloomberg reported that Apple was working on launching a similar radio service to Pandora Radio on iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad.

With the Evasi0n Untethered iOS 6.1 Jailbreak, some iRadio related files have been found hiding in the iPad Music.app file. We managed to use iFunBox to explore our iPad, finding some icon files under the title “radio-buy-button”. Now obviously the files related to this segment of iOS 6.1 are for the animation when the button is press, not available, or neutral. [Read more...]

Transparent iPad Concept Looks Incredibly Unique And Cool

I’ve seen a ton of concepts for iOS devices, and the one’s that are transparent, or translucent, always look the coolest. Technology is definitely going in the transparent and/or glass direction, especially with Google Glass being introduced a few months ago. Well, designer Ricardo Afonso took it upon himself to create a rendered concept (above), of an iPad made out of glass. The design itself is pretty neat, and is definitely something we could see Apple doing in the future, but until then Afonso’s creation is the closest thing to it. Afonso also had this to say via his Facebook page:

Sometimes, I like to envision how will the design of electronic devices of the future. In the specific case of tablets and smartphones, imagine them as just a rectangular piece of glass that wraps perfectly with the surrounding environment, without pieces of equipment they disconnect the user visually and content during their interaction, thus improving your level of immersion and the whole user experience.

However, as we are still a bit distant from owning a device so I started to think about how will the evolution of tablets in the near future, putting me at an intermediate point between the design of today and possibly design that will have such tablets fully transparent in the more distant future.

Afonso also made this 3D concept downloadable for the public, which you can grab here. This is definitely a very cool concept, and we’re interested to see what else he can design with his talent. What are your thoughts? Would you ever want to see an iPad made out of glass? source

Sunday is Funday Once Again for the Untethered iOS 6 Jailbreak [UPDATE: Maybe Not]

sunday is funday untethered ios 6 jailbreak

Earlier today Apple released the iOS 6.1 firmware to the public, which is interesting since the company never stated that the iOS 6.1 Beta 5 would be the Golden Master build. Aside from that, the release of iOS 6.1 finally allows the Untethered iOS 6 Jailbreak team, known now as evad3rs, to finish up the Jailbreak.

The evad3rs were waiting on Apple to released the iOS 6.1 firmware so that they could see if the firmware was still vulnerable to their exploits, it seems they are, but when will the team release the Untethered iOS 6.1 Jailbreak? [Read more...]
