After an announcement that came out of nowhere, it seems that Hackulous, the creators of the infamous jailbreak application Installous, have shut down for good. Despite creating Installous, the Hackulous website was also the host of a myriad of different forums for jailbreakers, which seems to have died down. Hackulous made the official statement via their website:
We are very sad to announce that Hackulous is shutting down. After many years, our community has become stagnant and our forums are a bit of a ghost town. It has become difficult to keep them online and well-moderated, despite the devotion of our staff. We’re incredibly thankful for the support we’ve had over the years and hope that new, greater communities blossom out of our absence.
It’s unfortunate to see jailbreak communities go, and I’m sure if the iOS 6 jailbreak had been released, this could have been avoided, but until then, it is what it is. Along with killing the site and all of its subsidiaries, Hackulous has “killed” Installous as well. There are work-arounds to get Installous working already, but we won’t be passing those along. Jailbreakers everywhere are saying this is a monumental step in ceasing piracy in the iOS community.
