Step 2: Computer Requirements for Evasi0n Tool
Evad3rs have mentioned some requirements needed for the Untethered iOS 6 / iOS 6.1 Jailbreak tool known as Evasi0n. Windows users will need to have a machine running Windows XP or later. Max OS X users will need to have their OS updated to 10.5 or later. Finally, Linux users might get the Evasi0n tool at a later date, but they need be running at least Linux x86 / x86_64 or later.
Step 3: Sync The Devices You’re Planning To Jailbreak
We can’t stress this one enough. Many users update their iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad Mini or iPad and forget to sync to iTunes or iCloud before the update. They end up losing valuable information on their devices and regret ever updating. A simple sync to either of the aforementioned services will back up your iDevice entirely, make sure to check that it’s all synced up. If you are running a Jailbroken iOS device already, you can download PkgBackup package from Cydia to save all of your tweaks, themes, Jailbreak apps, etc.
Step 4: Update to iOS 6.1 Safely after Sync
Now it is time to update your iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad Mini or iPad to prepare for the Evasi0n Untethered 6.1 Jailbreak. Of course you can stay on previous iOS versions, but why would you, get the latest and greatest iOS 6.1.
For this step, make sure you update to iOS 6.1 through iTunes and not Over The Air Update. OTA Update tends to mess with the Jailbreak process and the Evasi0n tool is not built to support it just yet, maybe in the future. After doing the previous steps, plug your device into your computer, and update to iOS 6.1 via iTunes.
If you have already done an Over The Air update to iOS 6.1 and would like theJailbreak iOS 6.1 Untethered, not too big of a problem. Sync your device once again, make sure you have all of your data, and plug it into iTunes this time. After plugging into iTunes, go to your device tab (upper right-hand corner in iTunes 11) and click Restore. This will download the iOS 6.1 firmware, and update the device in the correct fashion.
Step 5: Download Evasi0n Untethered iOS 6.1 Jailbreak:
You will need to download the Evasi0n 1.0 Untethered Jailbreak software for either Mac OS X, Windows, or Linux.
Step 6: Plug in your iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad Mini or iPad into your computer
For this example, we’ll be Jailbreaking an iPhone 5 using the Evasi0n tool, but feel free to follow these instructions on any other device as well, they are the same. Now, plug in your device into your computer using your respected USB cable.
Step 8: Jailbreak
After your device is plugged it, make sure it is turned on, then go ahead and click the “Jailbreak” button on your computer. The progress bar should start filling up, don’t touch your device, nor your computer, this will only take a few minutes.
The Evasi0n tool has now installed an app icon on your iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad Mini or iPad homescreen, where all of your apps are. The program will tell you to tap on the app icon it has added called “Jailbreak”. You will most likely find this icon on your last app icon page, tap it once, only once, it will open and close.
Step 10: Wait it out
Your device will now start rebooting a few times, you should see a screen like the one below, don’t worry, the iOS device will soon turn on to the Lockscreen, don’t touch!
You’re computer should also say that the Jailbreak is complete on the Evasi0n tool.
Step 11: Cydia is here, we’re not done yet
Cydia should now pop up on your Springboard, where your app icons are, go ahead and try to open it, and it will tell you that it is “Preparing Filesystem”. This is completely normal, usually takes a minute or two, then the device will respring.
Step 12: Pretty much Jailbroken
You are now ready to use Cydia and start your new Jailbreak life. Open up Cydia one more time and it will ask you if your are a User, Developer, or Hacker, please chose “User”, then tap done.
Step 13: Jailbreak achieved!
You are now free to roam Cydia, here you can download Tweaks, Themes, Jailbreak apps, and many more things Apple doesn’t want you to do, but it’s legal, so whatever =]
