China Times reports Apple has chosen Taiwanese chip firm, Chipbond, to manufacture several components for the upcoming iPhone 5S. Chipbond will allegedly provide the touch display driver, as well as components for the fingerprint sensor and NFC.
Before the iPhone 5 was unveiled, many rumors claimed that the phone would have NFC capabilities, however those rumors were obviously false. This report states that the iPhone 5S will use the fingerprint sensor to enhance security of the NFC functionality.
Last week we saw KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo send out a research note claiming the iPhone 5S would have a fingerprint sensor under the Home Button, however no word on NFC. While word has also gotten out that the iPhone 5S is currently in production with no retooling necessary for equipment.
