Jeffries analyst Peter Misek released a research report regarding Apple’s already rumored iPhone 5S. The research is based on supply chains and states that the next iPhone 5S could go back to the original iPhone launch time in mid-2013, aka June.
The report includes possible features of the upcoming iPhone 5S that are “very possible” including a new Super HD Camera, a new type of display called the Retina+, improved battery life, NFC capabilities, up to 128GB of storage, and would ship in 6-8 different colors.
Based on our checks, likely updates include a new super HD camera/screen, a better battery, and NFC. Possible updates include an IGZO screen for Retina+, 128GB storage, and coming in 6 to 8 colors.
Misek also mentions that not only iPhone 5S prototypes are circulating, but also the 2014 iPhone 6 prototypes have been seen. According to the report, the iPhone 6 will pack a 4.8″ Retina+ display, A7 quad-core processor, and a new design that eliminates the need for a Home button.
Several iPhone 6 prototypes appear to be floating around. The model with a 4.8″ screen is the most interesting. It has a Retina+ IGZO screen, a new A7 quad-core processor variant, and a new form factor with no home button. Full gesture control is also possibly included.
All of this is fine and dandy, but remember this is just coming from an analyst and could very much be incorrect. It’s all fun and games to see rumors of what the next generation iPhone 5S and iPhone 6 will look like and feature.
As Apple did with the iPhone 4S compared to the iPhone 4, adding a new “super HD camera” wouldn’t be much of a surprise. We don’t really see the Retina+ display, or any change of the display, happening until the 2014 iPhone 6. NFC is possible, but Jony Ive would not be too happy because of his belief in PassBook and other applications. While 128GB storage could very well be a possibility, seeing the next iPhone in 6-8 different colors seems a bit off.
The report on the Apple iPhone 6 for 2014 seems a bit more likely, although the 4.8″ display would make the iPhone closers to a mini-tablet. We could see apple making the screen a bit wider to compete with Android, but the company is currently happy with the longer display instead of wider. However, they could just add a wider display to add a little bit of new to the iPhone line-up.
Later in the report Misek goes on to mention that Apple should be launching the iPad 5G and the iPad Mini 2G with Retina display and multiple colors around June of next year. The analyst also believes that Apple’s HDTV set (rumored Apple iTV) will be releasing in the Fall around October.
Very interesting speculations here, of course we won’t know which items and features will make the cut until word from Apple. We will of course keep you posted on the latest iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, iPad 5G, iPad Mini 2G with Retina Display, and Apple HDTV News.
