Ultimate App Switching Cydia Tweaks

Many are new to iOS and the iPhone/iPad and don’t know that before iOS 4, multitasking on the iPhone was not really possible. Backgrounder and Multifl0w were early versions of task switching before Apple made it available along with the iPhone 4 in the middle of 2010. Enough with the history lesson on jailbreaking, lets get to the latest app switching tweaks available in Cydia for your iOS 6 device.

Activator (FREE) – This tweak from Ryan Petrich enhances many other tweaks with access to a host of triggers to ‘activate’ a tweak. Status bar taps, hardware buttons, or device shaking provides access to quickly launched or triggering with these simple gestures… No wonder it has had over 35 million downloads!

Springround ($0.99) – This jailbreak tweak takes advantage of Activator to overlay your springboard icons on top of whatever app you are using. This is essentially the ultimate app switcher giving you access to your homescreen without exiting the app.

Zephyr ($4.99) – Grant Paul (chpwn) has updated this Cydia tweak to version 1.5 for full support of iOS 6, iPhone 5 and iPad Mini. The primary use of this tweak is in allowing for switching between apps with gestures the same way the Apple enabled gestures on the iPad. Pinch to close apps or swipe up from the bottom, you can also access the multitasking tray in the same way.

Auxo ($1.99) – This tweak replaces the standard icon views with app cards with a preview of the app and also customized gestures to remove apps from the multitasking tray. Custom toggles for respring, WiFi, BlueTooth, 3G and brightness is also available with Auxo.

OverBoard ($2.99) – This tweak shows an overview of your springboard pages to allow jumping from the first to last page quickly with an Activator action. This is very useful if you have many springboard pages and can only be accessed while on a springboard page.

MultiFl0w ($4.99) – MultiFl0w was the ultimate app switcher, back before Apple even integrated this feature (remember “one app at a time”) into iOS 4. This tweak has not been updated for iOS 6 yet, but is a favorite among the jailbreak community.
